Imphal, January 12 2024: As observed across the country, National Youth Day was celebrated widely in the State on Friday to commemorate the birth anniversary of youth icon Swami Vivekananda.

Today, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Manipur marked National Youth Day with grand celebrations across 10 districts and 30 educational campuses in the State.

In a series of spirited celebrations held at colleges, schools, institutes, and universities, ABVP Manipur paid tribute to the profound teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekananda, said a release issued by ABVP Manipur.

The events showcased a confluence of intellectual discourse, cultural performances and activities aimed at fostering national pride & youth empowerment.

The diverse campuses across the 10 districts reverberated with discussions on Swami Vivekananda's philosophy, emphasizing the relevance of his thoughts in shaping the character and aspirations of the youth.

In addition to intellectual discussions, the celebratory events included various activities such as the Plastic Free Campaign, Clean Campus Green Campus initiative, speeches on the role of agriculture students for a Viksit Bharat, career guidance sessions, discussions on building a self-reliant Bharat, and addressing the issue of 'Youth free from drug abuse' .

Through these diverse activities, ABVP Manipur not only paid homage to the great spiritual leader but also sought to instill a sense of responsibility and purpose among the youth.

Moreover, to commemorate the 161st birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the NSS Cell, Manipur University, Canchipur and Khelo Bharat, Manipur today jointly organised an interaction programme on "Sustainable Development of Personality and Leadership Qualities in Youth through Sports" at the Department of Physical Education & Sports Science, Manipur University, Canchipur.

The interactive session provided an opportunity for the youth to learn from two experts- Dr M Nodiyachand Singh, Associate professor, PESS & Coordinator NSS Cell, Manipur University, and Dr L Santosh Singh, Associate Professor, Manipur University, said a release issued by NSS Cell.

At the event, Dr Nodiyachand Singh highlighted the importance of sports in shaping and nurturing the overall personality of young individuals.

He emphasized that the sustainable development of personality in youth through sports is a concept that goes beyond just improving physical fitness.

"It is about developing postures, good looks, character, values, and skills that will help youths succeed in life.

Through sports, young people learn the value of teamwork, discipline, perseverance, leadership, and respect for others", said Dr Nodiyachand while adding that these skills are not only important in sports but also in all aspects of life, such as education, career, and personal relationships.

He asserted that sports provide a safe and supportive space for young people to explore their potential and discover their strengths.

Dr Nodiyachand Singh also stressed on the need to invest in sports programmes and ensure access to quality sports education.

Dr Santosh Singh expressed that sports can be a powerful tool for fostering sustainable leadership qualities in young people.

"The sustainable development of leadership qualities in young individuals through sports is a crucial aspect of personal growth and achievement", he added.
