Imphal, May 29 2026:
The second phase of assistance to families of those who lost their lives in the ongoing violence since May 3, 2023, was held today at Loktak Hall, Manipur Press Club.
Organised by the Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), the programme began with a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Speaking on the occasion, IPAK president Kshetrimayum Somorendro said that in the first phase, 25 families were provided with candle-making machines, wicks, and wax to help them earn a livelihood.
In today's second phase, 35 more families received similar assistance.
He added that the third phase, planned for July, will cover 30 more families.
"This initiative aims to support the economic sustenance of bereaved families, even if in a small way", Somorendro said, adding that IPAK will continue to take up various programmes for the welfare of indigenous people.
He also noted that IPAK has been extending aid to those displaced and staying in relief camps due to the unrest.
