Meeting resolves to adopt plebiscite

Imphal, January 28, 2011:
A meeting on 'Public Participation in bringing solution to Manipur-India conflict' was held today at Yairipok Leirongthel Community Hall, Thoubal district.
The public meeting was jointly organised by the Panthoibi Youth Club and Leirongthel Women Development Association.
K Thasana, President Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation graced the meeting as chief guest.
Irom Tomba presided over the function.
Th Ramani, Secretary Nupi Samaj and Irom Thambalsana also attended the meeting as guests of honour.
Speaking in the occasion, general secretary, United Committee Manipur, W Second said that the people of the state are facing lots of trouble and hardship due to the present Manipur-India conflict.
Plebiscite is the only peaceful political solution to the present conflict faced by the people from state and non state actors.
In his speech, president, UPF, YK Dhiren said that Manipur has been facing oppression for more than five decades.
The only question in every one's mind is 'how long should we tolerate the oppression?'.
People of the state should stand united for a peaceful political solution to the present conflict.
Holding a plebiscite under the direct supervision of the United Nations is the only peaceful solution to the conflict.
After much discussion the meeting resolved to adopt public participation and hold a plebiscite to bring a peaceful political solution to the present Manipur-India conflict.
It also resolved to press the United Nations and other international Human Rights bodies to extend their intervention and cooperation.
