Noney, June 27 2026:
Healthcare services at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Nungba in Noney district have been adversely affected due to severe infrastructure and safety challenges faced by the health facility.
An oxygen plant installed at the CHC during the COVID-19 pandemic to enhance emergency medical preparedness has remained non-functional for a considerable period due to persistent power generation issues.
The situation has further worsened following the ongoing widening and cutting works along National Highway-37, which have caused damage to parts of the hospital campus.
The oxygen plant site has become unsafe for operation, raising concerns over emergency response capabilities.
Several staff quarters within the CHC compound are also in a poor condition, with continuous roof leakages during the rainy season making parts of the residential buildings unsafe.
Healthcare personnel have been compelled to continue their duties under difficult living and working conditions.
The ongoing construction of the Trauma Centre and Blood Bank has also been affected by the NH-37 expansion works.
Soil cutting activities near the construction site have created concerns over the structural stability of the buildings, delaying the completion of the vital emergency healthcare facilities.
To assess the situation, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Noney, Dr Azin Meiringmei, along with District Immunization Officer Dr Jendum Gonmei and District Surveillance Officer Dr Garanlung Thaimei, visited CHC Nungba and inspected the oxygen plant, Trauma Centre, Blood Bank, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and staff quarters.
During the visit, the District Health Society, Noney, launched the district-level 'Stop Diarrhoea 2026' campaign at CHC Nungba.
The campaign aims to promote preventive healthcare measures, improve sanitation and hygiene awareness, and reduce diarrhoeal diseases, particularly among children.
Despite facing an acute shortage of manpower and infrastructure constraints, CHC Nungba continues to provide essential healthcare services to the people of the region.
Health officials appreciated the dedication of the available staff and stressed the need for urgent infrastructure restoration and necessary support to ensure uninterrupted medical services.
