Imphal, June 25 2026:
The People United Youth Alliance (PUYA) has urged the concerned authorities to immediately replace the faulty ultrasound machine at Community Health Centre (CHC) Nambol and repair the leaking roof and replace the mould-affected beds at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Oinam.
The demand came after a PUYA team conducted an inspection of PHC Oinam and CHC Nambol as part of its ongoing inspection drive of healthcare institutions across the State.
Speaking to the media after the inspection.
PUYA general secretary Longjam Abothe expressed concern over the condition of PHC Oinam, stating that leakage from several portions of the building has created problems for patients and healthcare services.
He said that due to the water seepage, several beds used by patients have developed mould and require immediate replacement Abothe further stated that a hospital should always maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
However, he expressed disappointment over the damaged flooring, particularly near areas such as the blood sample collection room, and the improper maintenance of dustbins, which have resulted in unhygienic conditions.
He also alleged that during the inspection, some staff members were found to have shortcomings in performing their assigned duties and urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter.
Regarding CHC Nambol, Abothe said that the health centre caters to around 200 patients daily but expressed concern that its ultrasound machine has remained nonfunctional for a long time without necessary intervention.
He said the outdated and faulty machine has caused hardship to patients, particularly pregnant women requiring ultrasound examinations.
Due to the non-availability of the facility, many women are forced to seek services elsewhere at additional cost, putting a financial burden on families, especially those dependent on daily earnings.
He further stated that strengthening healthcare services is essential for the development of society.
While acknowledging the availability of doctors and nurses at the health centre and appreciating their dedicated services, he pointed out the need for specialist doctors, including surgeons and anaesthetists, especially when an operation theatre is available.
He urged the authorities to ensure that CHC Nambol is equipped to handle emergency cases effectively.
Abothe also welcomed the availability of an updated digital X-ray machine at the health centre and appealed to healthcare personnel to continue serving the public with dedication.
