Imphal, February 25 2026:
Wangkhei AC MLA, Thangjam Arunkumar, today emphasized that the development of a locality heavily depends on the collective efforts and unity of the localyouth, elders, and women.
Speaking at the 8th Foundation Day of the Nongmeibung Chakpram Leirak Development Committee (NCLDC), held at the Multi Utility Park in Nongmeibung Chakpram Leirak, Thangjam Arunkumar stressed the importance of sincerity and unity in carrying out work.
He stated that the support and valuable advice from the elders are crucial for the progress of any area.
Regarding the ongoing rigid pavement work on roads, the MLA mentioned that the work is not progressing simultaneously everywhere due to a shortage of machinery and manpower.
As machinery is expensive, only one machine can be used at a time in a specific location.
Therefore, the main roads are being focused on first, with plans to move to inter-village roads (IVR) and other smaller lanes later.
The aim is to complete this work by 2026.He added that pressure is being put on the construction companies to increase manpower and machinery to meet this deadline.
He also mentioned that work has begun on constructing retaining walls in several areas within the constituency, including one spot near the Lamlong bridge that frequently floods.
This is expected to mitigate the flooding issue.
Delivering the keynote address, NCLDC secretary Moirangthem Nishikanta highlighted that the committee actively works towards the development and cleanliness of the locality.
The event, presided over by NCLDC chairman Chakpram Rupachandra Singh and Eastern Student's Club president Wahengbam Ishworchandra Singh, included felicitations for the two oldest women in the locality: 100-year-old Keisham Ngangbi Devi and 98-year-old Khumukcham Yaimabi Devi.
Other individuals felicitated were Manipur State Kala Akadetpi Young Talent Awardee Phuristshabam Debajani Devi, Dr Chakpram Narendra Singh, MA Gold medalist Renu Nongthombam, and the NCLDC street lamp maintenance team.
The NCLDC also presented a memento and a memorandum to Thangjam Arunkumar, who, in turn, planted a tree within the park campus to mark the occasion.
