Imphal, March 24 2025:
A National workshop cum interface meeting on "Vision and Pathways to sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Development In Manipur" was kicked off today at ICAR-RC, NEH Region, Manipur Centre at Lamphelpat.
The workshop was jointly organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre, Imphal and five Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Imphal West and Chandel) .
Speaking as the chief guest, T Phulen, Director, Directorate of Fisheries, said that Manipur has potential to become a big fish producer.

This requires collaboration with various other departments, he added.
Saying that the Department has many schemes for fish farmers, he added that mass awareness programmes will also be conducted to ensure that they are able to avail the benefits provided by such schemes.
If these schemes are implemented properly, then the fish production of Manipur can reach 20 metric tonnes, he conveyed.
Other notable dignitaries present at the event include Dr Ch Basudha Devi, HoRC, ICAR-Research Centre for NEH Region Manipur Chapter; Partha Mandal, General Manager, NABARD and Dorothy MS, Executive (Tech), NFDB-North Eastern Regional Centre, Guwahati.
At the event, many fish farmers were felicitated and fish fingerlings and feeds were also distributed.
