Imphal, June 23 2010:
Along with observing Manipur Solidarity Day all over India today to mark the death anniversary of noted BJP leader Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, party leaders have described the observance as an important movement in the politics as well as for the integrity and unity of Manipur.
Observance of Manipur Solidarity Day in all the Indian States and metro cities today has been reportedly announced by BJP National president Nitin Gadkari during the two-day long party's National Executive Committee meeting held at Patna from June 12 to 13 .
At Imphal, Manipur Solidarity Day was observed under the aegis of State BJP unit at the Nityapat Chuthek party office complex here with party workers staging a dharna.
State party unit president, other party leaders and workers of District units and Mandals were present at the occasion.
Party leaders who spoke at the occasion described the observance of Manipur Solidarity Day all over India as an important and historic moment not only in the politics of Manipur but also in the efforts towards protection of unity and integrity of Manipur.
Organising such observances has shown that among all other National parties, BJP considers the issues of Manipur seriously.
So, the people of Manipur ought to take the stand taken by the BJP National leaders seriously as well.
They further said that the pressure given by the BJP National leaders to the Prime Minister for paying a personal visit to Manipur to take first hand account of the unsettling situation prevailing in Manipur in the wake of the over two months long economic blockade and the insistence of Muivah to enter Manipur and the proposal that Government of India should accord special status to Manipur not less than the one being given to Jammu and Kashmir deserved appreciation.
BJP is observing Manipur Solidarity Day under a definite objective of countering the challenges posed to the territorial integrity of Manipur and the peaceful coexistence among various communities all in the name of Indo-Naga peace process, the speakers said.
