Personnel of 26 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 57 mountain Division and 86 Bn CRPF deployed on ROP duty swung into rescue operation when a truck carrying PWD labourers from Imphal to jiribam plunged down a deep gorge of 300 feet at near milestone 35 on NH-53 on june 22, said a PIB (DW) release.
Ambulance and medical personnel of 26 AR immediately rushed to the accident site and rescue operations were conducted under their commanding officer, the release said adding that emergency first aid was rendered to 28 injured civilians before being evacuated to RIMS Hospital by Army ambulances.
The driver of the vehicle died on the spot and his body was recovered by the rescue team and one of the injured died at RIMS.
