Devolution of power to ADCs discussed

The Cabinet has recommended appointment of the sons of police commando officer N Lokhon, who was killed by the proscribed PLA and Assistant Horticulture Officer N Sharat who was recently shot dead by unidentified armed persons to the post of ASI and SI respectively.
The Cabinet meeting held in the Secretariat Hall this afternoon with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair, recommended that N Avinash, son of Lokhon, be given direct appointment to the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and N Rajiv, son of N Sharat, to the post of Sub-Inspector in the Manipur Police Department.
The Cabinet has also decided to grant an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kins of the late N Sharat.
More popularly known as Commando Lokhon, Lokhon was killed in a clinically executed attack while on duty at Thoubal Bazar in 2006 while N Sarat of Oinam Awang Leikai, who was an Assistant Horticulture Officer in the Horticulture Department, Bishnupur district, was shot dead by unidentified armed persons in front of his own wife in the night of June 20, 2010 .
Today's Cabinet meeting also recommended identification of 30 Madrasas being run in different parts of the State for extending grant-in-aid by the Government through MOBC.
Taking serious note of the overlapping of areas in some hill districts in the ongoing Census exercise, the Cabinet recommended that these areas be identified and for that a committee headed by the Chief Secretary and consisting of other related officials be instituted so that the report of the committee may be submitted within one week's time.
Other recommendations of the Cabinet include devolution of power and other benefits to the members of District Councils on par with other States, introduction of Manipur Municipal Community Participation Bill, 2010 in the next Assembly session and providing a suitable Govt job to one of the family members of late Rengneingam Kom, who was an assistant teacher in Thayong UJB School.
