Urges withdrawal of Statewide Shutdown

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam as appealed to all civil society groups and sections of the public to reconsider and withdraw the proposed five-day total shutdown in the interest of public welfare and normal functioning in the State.
He was addressing the media during a press conference held today at Chief Minister's Secretariat, Imphal.
The Minister highlighted the hardships faced by daily wage earners, farmers, and students due to prolonged shutdowns and protests, especially with educational institutions remaining closed.

He assured that the State government has been taking note of the public demands and is addressing the concerns seriously.
The Minister said that almost all demands raised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tronglaobi Incident have been agreed to by the government.
Besides, after the meeting with father of the two kids died in the Tronglaobi incident, the government had offered to Mangal with a suitable job in State Government equivalent to the present post he held in the BSF .
The government also offered to provide a suitable job to the mother, who is a trained nurse, in the state government.
However, he went back saying that the offers will be discussed thoroughly.
Thereafter, the decision to call a total shutdown of five days came, which was highly unfortunate, Govindas added.
Regarding yesterday's incident at T Kasom Village, Shri Govindas termed the incident as 'highly unfortunate' and added that the State Government has condemned the incident.
He further added that Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has submitted a memorandum to the government in connection with the incident containing various charter of demands.
He informed the press that many of the demands were discussed in the joint meeting that was held with TNL leaders and Naga MLAs led by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho.
Compensation as per government rules will be given to families of the two deceased and assistance for medical treatment of those injured will also be provided.
Urging cooperation, Govindas called for maintaining peace and resolving issues through dialogue and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to address public concerns.
The Home Minister also informed the press that out of the 272 companies of CAPF deployed across Manipur, 88 companies have been withdrawn due to the West Bengal elections, with another 15 companies scheduled for withdrawal, totaling 103 companies.
However, due to strong request by the Chief Minister to the Union Home Ministry, 184 companies of CAPFs will be retained within the state for security and bringing stability.
Govindas also added that the state is introducing advanced security assets, including Mine-Protected Vehicles (MPV) and Bullet-Proof vehicles, to enhance the safety of common people.
"We appeal to all communities to cooperate with the government.
Our commitment is to protect the life and property of every citizen.
Following a period of President's Rule, this government, though quite new in its tenure, is dedicated to restoring peace and tranquility.
We appealed the public to give us some time", he said.
Several MLAs were also present in the press conference that was held today afternoon.
