Awareness / seed distribution programme held

Ukhrul/Thoubal, November 17 2023:
The Ukhrul District Agriculture Office distributed Rabi crop seeds to more than 240 farmers of the district today.
As a part of the programme, District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Ukhrul R Varechon raised awareness among the farmers and demonstrated how to use Nano liquid fertilizers instead of other chemical fertilizers so as to increase annual crop yield.
He also urged the farmers to participate in the training programme provided by the Department and avail the benefits of the Government support schemes to grow more food crops and strive for a sustainable economy.
Winter crops seeds such as maize and peas were distributed to the farmers during the programme.
According to the DAO, 70 bags of maize and 60 bags of pea seeds were distributed free of cost to the farmers.
Thoubal
On the other hand, an awareness cum distribution of winter vegetable seeds programme was held at Ching-tam community hall in Sugnu yesterday.
The programme was organised by the District Officer, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Thoubal in collaboration with the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Farmers' Wing under the aegis of Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).
Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Thoubal DO, Lenin Khwairakpam; former programme coordinator KVK Thoubal, Dr M Thoi Thoi and COCOMI Farmers Wing Coconvenors Shyam Khuman and L Kiran attended the programme as presidium members.
COCOMI Farmers Wing co-convenor Shyam Khuman said that the distribution drive of winter crop seeds has been taken up to help the farmers in remote and peripheral areas to grow various crops so as to sustain themselves and enhance their economy amid the prevailing unrest in the State.
Stating that the economic condition of the farmers have been adversely affected by the ongoing crisis, he called for cohesive efforts for a progressive economy.
