Imphal, August 14 2025:
Lok Sabha Member Dr Bimol Akoijam has decried that certain questions he submitted in connection with development projects taken up by the Centre in Manipur were not picked up for discussion in the Parliament on the pretext that they are in the State List.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today where he attended the release of a novel "Minggou Khanglakpada Bhanumukhi" authored by Laishram Matum Singh, Dr Bimol said that he submitted certain questions on the welfare schemes taken up by the Government for the IDPs of Manipur, if there is any and whether any new welfare schemes are being taken up for the IDPs.
However, the same questions were removed on the pretext the matter was under State List and it was not appropriate to raise these questions in the Parliament, he said.
Another question pertaining to teachers of higher secondary schools was also removed on the same excuse.
However, answers were given to some other questions even though these questions were said to be under State List.
The concerned Union Ministers did not give reply to the questions pertaining to IDPs and higher secondary school teachers because they found these questions problematic, Dr Bimol said.
The State is presently under President's Rule.
In the absence of an elected Government, it is the Parliament which must pass the State's budget, he said.
Saying that he was asking questions in the Parliament by virtue of being a representative of the people, the Congress MP accused the Central Government of violating parliamentary rules and norms.
The BJP Government dropped/skipped questions from being discussed in the Parliament which they thought would expose their failures or harm them.
This has maligned the image of democracy, Dr Bimol said.
