Imphal, May 13 2010: The Union Home Ministry should immediately pull back its commitment to allow NSCN (IM) General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah to visit Manipur and help mollify the heightened tension of the people of Manipur, demanded BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedkar.

He also made it clear that the territorial integrity of Manipur should not be disturbed under any circumstances.

A BJP Parliamentary team led by Prakash Javedkar arrived at Imphal today and took a first hand account of the prevailing situation.

The BJP team also included the party's vicepresident Bijoya Chakravorty, Tarun Vijay and North East Zonal Organisation secretary P Chandrasekhar Rao.

The team discussed the prevailing situation with the party's State office bearers, representatives of the employees' JAC, AMUCO, Kuki Inpi, senior citizens and other political leaders.

The BJP team also visited Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and IOC depot at Chingmeirong.

They also interacted with women vendors of Ima Keithel.

Later speaking to media persons at the BJP State unit office, Prakash Javedkar who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, demanded that the Union Home Minister should withdraw his assurance of allowing Muivah to visit Manipur in order to ease the tension running high among the people of Manipur.

Muivah's plan to visit his birthplace Somdal is not a homecoming but a political move during which he would address several meetings, he said adding that the agenda is clear to all.

"The clearance given by the Home Minister for Muivah to visit Manipur was a blunder and we condemn it", Prakash Javedkar said.

Accusing the UPA Government of plotting to create a serious socio-political crisis in Manipur, Javedkar observed that the tense situation prevailing in Manipur was a result of the clearance given by the Home Minister to Muivah without consulting the Government of Manipur.

The Government of India and NSCN (IM) can talk about myriad subjects in their political dialogue, but the question of Manipur's territorial integrity should not be included in the agenda under any circumstances.

"It is BJP's belief that territorial integrity of Manipur should not be disturbed and no room should given for any compromise in this regard", Javedkar stated.

Alleging that the State Government did nothing to bring a solution to the prolonged economic blockade on National Highways, the BJP spokesperson noted that prices of petroleum products and other commodities have rose alarmingly.

Pointing out that it is the duty of the State Government to ensure availability of essential commodities to the people, Javedkar asserted that essential commodities should be made available to people at reduced prices until the existing crisis is over.

The State Government should talk with the agitating employees and work out a solution at the earliest.

The volatile law and order situation and the administrative break down in Manipur resulting from the Union Home Minister's lack of understanding about Manipur would be explained to the BJP president.

"We would also apprise the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister about the real picture of the prevailing situation in Manipur", the BJP spokesperson said.

To a query put up by media persons, Prakash Javedkar said that the Bangkok Declaration signed during NDA Government was withdrawn taking note of the massive movement witnessed in Manipur.

But Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is not withdrawing the clearance given to Muivah till date, he added.
