School of Social Science and Centre for Manipur Studies, Manipur University hosted a distinguished lecture programme under the sponsorship of the Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India at MU Senate Hall today.
Former High Commissioner to South Africa and Ambassador to Myanmar RK Bhatia delivered a lecture on the relationship between India and South Africa.
Vice Chancellor C Amuba, Anantha Krishan of the Ministry of External Affairs and Prof Amar Yumnam of Economics Department graced the lecture programme as presidium members.
In his lecture, RK Bhatia talked about the evolving trends in the diplomatic relations between India and South Africa.
Underdevelopment, poverty, unstable Governments and unemployment are the main problems of Africa.
But a positive trend of economic development can be witnessed in many African countries these days, Bhatia said.
India and South Africa have a very healthy diplomatic relations and there are many cultural and educational exchange programmes in addition to technical cooperation between the two countries.
Talking about South Africa's need for investment, the former High Commissioner said that India is committed to economic development of Africa.
Even as partnership between India and South Africa is prospering, India needs to more, Bhatia said.
