The Film Academy Manipur (FAM) celebrated its 6th Anniversary today at Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal.
RJ Film Vision Special Awards were also distributed as part of the celebration.
Gokul and Abenao were conferred the Best Actor and Best Actress awards.
The award for Best Supporting Actress was given to K Hemabati.
Best Supporting Actor award went to H Shyamdhani.
Hijam Sarjubala popularly known as Bala was honoured with Special Jury Award.
Social Worker Khumukcham Joykishan, founder member of FAM Ahmad Ali and Chief Advisor, FAM, L Gourachandra graced the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking in the occasion, Advocate Ngangom Tejkumar, advisor FAM said that Manipuri films have developed to a great extent since the restriction imposed to Hindi films by underground organisations.
Many good actors and actresses have emerged since then.
More than 300 digital feature films have been produced in the short stint.
Once of the major achievement of Manipuri film is the approval of participation in the Indian Panorama and National Film Festival.
Not only have they played a major role in upholding the rich traditional culture of the state, but they also helped in developing the economic condition of the state, he said.
Although Manipuri films have developed greatly, the state government is not doing anything to develop Manipuri film.
This is a clear example of ignorance of Manipuri films by the government.
There are many famous government film institutions in other parts of the country.
Governments of other states adopt proper policy to develop film industry in their state.
However the leaders of the state are not thinking anything in the matter, Tejkumar said.
Artists of FAM who have won first position in the 10th All India Drama and Dance Competition held in Gurgaon were felicitated and presented mementos as part of the function.
FAM calendar 2011 was also released.
