'Pearl Farming' training concludes

A two-day national-level hands-on training programme on "Pearl Farming.
Aquaculture and Resource Conservation" concluded today at TS Paul Manipur Women's College, Mongshangei.
The training programme was jointly organised by the Department of Environmental Science, IQAC and Eco-club, in association with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur.
The two-day event began with a welcome address delivered by Dr L Lilabati.
In his keynote, Dr Khumukcham Rajukumar called for wider adoption of pearl farming and sustainable practices among students and faculty.

Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, said freshwater pearl farming in ponds and lakes can boost rural incomes and support eco-friendly business models in Manipur.
Guests of honour K Brajamani and U Gyanenkumar Singh discussed the economic potential of pearl farming and the need for sustainable methods.
Principal Ksh Devendra Singh said scientific intervention was key and noted growing interest from farmers in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
Resource person Dr Yambem Tenjing Singh conducted the technical session on the scope of pearl farming on the first day.
On the second day, he demonstrated pearl farming techniques and related business practices.
Participants included students from Central Agricultural University, IBSD, Pandit Deen Dayal Institute, Saraswati Institute, IIT Roorkee and Delhi University, along with faculty and students from Naorem Birahari College, Lilong Haoreibi College, Manipur College,, Pole Star College, Prabhavati College and the host college.
The training closed with a feedback session on challenges and prospects of freshwater pearl farming in the State.
