71st Wildlife Week observed across State with exposure tour, trail walk and plantation drive

The 71st Wildlife Week continues across the State with a series of programmes like exposure tour, trail walk, and plantation drive calling for the protection of wildlife and environmental conservation.
BISHNUPUR
As a part of the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration 2025, the Bishnupur Forest Division organized an exposure visit for students of various schools across Bishnupur district to mark the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration 2025 .
A total of 62 students from LCM High School Moirang.
St Xavier's Moirang, Modem Hr Sc School Bishnupur, Public School Bishnupur, and Toubul Government High School from Bishnupur District participated in the educational exposure trip.
The primary focus of the visit was to create awareness and concern on Wildlife conservation and instil the spirit and compassion for wildlife & nature in Bishnupur areas.
During the visit, students interacted with local forest officials and conservation volunteers, who shared their daily experiences and challenges in monitoring the national park, especially during the monsoon season when water levels fluctuate drastically.
The officials highlighted the importance of community involvement and sustainable tourism practices as essential components for the park's future.
Under the supervision of Waikhom Romabai, Divisional Forest Officer, Bishnupur Forest Division, Government of Manipur, the exposure visit led by RK Sadananda Singh, Range Forest Officer/HQ along with staff of the Bishnupur Forest Division concluded with a clear consensus among the students that Keibul Lamjao National Park is not just a geographical marvel, but a global conservation imperative.
The unique home of the dancing deer demands immediate, coordinated action from governmental bodies, local communities, and international conservation organizations to ensure that this fragile, floating paradise continues to thrive for future generations.
THOUBAL
As part of the ongoing 71st Wildlife Week celebrations being observed nationwide from October 2, a guided birdwatching trail walk for students was conducted at Phunal Maring under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer, Dr L Jeeceelee, and organised by the Thoubal Forest Range.
The event held at Phunal Maring, located under Waithou Protected Forest Area, was led by Range Officer of Thoubal, Dineshchandra Salam, accompanied by members of Wildlife Explorer and forest staff.
During the walk, Range Officer Dineshchandra Salam and members of Wildlife Explorer explained to the students of various bird species and wild animals, and also highlighted the importance of preserving migratory birds that arrive from different countries.
CHANDEL
Meanwhile, another major event marking Wildlife Week was held at Serou village in Kakching district, located near Yangenching and Kangbung Reserved Forest, organised by the Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel, with active participation from Meira Paibis, students, police personnel of Singtam Police Outpost, officers and jawans of 46 Assam Rifles, and forest staff.
As part of the event, around 300 tree saplings were planted along the banks of Chakpi river, reinforcing the community's commitment to environmental restoration.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO/Chandel, expressed his appreciation to the Meira Paibi's participating in the ongoing weeklong celebration of Wildlife Week.
He stated that such participation from Meira Paibis and civil society organisations is very much essential to contribute in the conservation and protection of wildlife and biodiversity of Manipur.
He further added that the success of this year's Wildlife Week celebration, marked by widespread community engagement, reflects a growing awareness among the people of Manipur about the urgent need to safeguard forests, wildlife, and natural habitats for future generations.
