Above normal rainfall predicted for this year

Even as the State has recorded two degrees higher than last year's maximum temperature uptil July 16, Manipur is likely to receive rainfall slightly above the normal level this year.
Talking to The Sangai Express, ICAR, Lamphelpat Agromet Station Technical Officer Athokpam Nomita said that the State has recorded 35.9 degree Celsius as the maximum temperature this year against last year's 33.9 degree Celsius uptil July 16 .
However, the State sweltered at 37.5 degree celcius in 2002 during this time, she added.
Regarding rainfall, Nomita said that the State is likely to receive rainfall slightly above the normal level this year.
So far, the State has received 31.1 mm of rainfall in February, 28 mm in March, 47.5 mm in April, 277.3 mm in May, 385 mm in June and 16.5 mm till July 4 morning.
The State received a total rainfall of 1639.1 mm last year, Nomita said and added that the State was lashed with 1.7 mm rainfall in February, 31.8 mm in March, 83.6 mm in April, 335.1 mm in May, 135.5 mm in June, 254.1 mm in July, 414.3 mm in August, 291.3 mm in September, 90.3 mm in October and 1.4 mm in December last year.
Predicting good rainfall for this year as well, Nomita said that farmers may not face any water problem this year.
She said that the Agromet Station sends its weekly datas to the Indian Meteorological Department.
Weather forecasts are mainly done at Pune, Delhi and Guwahati by gathering datas from all over the India, she said and added that all these forcasts and datas are then uploaded on the website: imdagrimet.gov.in.
The Agromet Station also sends weather informations to the media and KVKs located at different parts of the State.
Apart from weather information, the Station also sends Agro Advisory messages to farmers through mobile phones.
Set up in 1996 under Gramin Seva Krishi Mausam Seva Project, ICAR complex, Lamphelpat is now equipped with Stevenon Screen, Wind Vane, Automatic Weather Station, Cup Anemometer, Ordinary Rain Guage, Sunshine Recorder and Thermometres etc.
