71st Wildlife Week launched across State with call for conservation of wildlife and biodervisity

The Forest Divisions across the State launched the 71st Wildlife Week 2025 today with a strong call for the protection of wildlife and biodiversity.
The celebration aims to spread environmental awareness and highlight the urgent need for conservation.
JIRIBAM
With the objective of promoting environmental awareness and conservation in the region, the Jiribam Forest Divisions launched the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration, 2025 today in Jiribam from the PWD Guest House.
The celebration will be observed from October 2-8, 2025, with the theme "Human Animal Coexistence." The primary objective of the celebration is to inculcate a sense of responsibility for wildlife conservation among the general public, youth, and school students.
The launching program featured a District Level Quiz Competition organized by the Divisional Forest Officer, Jiribam.
The Quiz Competition was participated by five teams from various schools, including Highway English High School, Cambridge English School, Jiribam Higher Secondary, The Pebble Stone International, and RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya with each team consisting of four participants.
Later on, the prize winners of the quiz competition were awarded certificates and cash prizes by Elangbam Nirmala Chanu, Divisional Forest Officer, Jiribam.
The DFO also distributed prizes for the District Level Wildlife Painting Competition and Essay Writing Competition, which was held on September 20, 2025.The celebration was attended by officials and staff of Jiribam Forest Division, students, teachers, and local community members.
KANGPOKPI
As a part of Wildlife Week Celebration 2025, with the theme 'Human-Animal CoExistence', Kangpokpi Forest Division organized a Bike Rally in collaboration with Eimi Riders Manipur.
The rally was flagged off from Hengbung and concluded at the Kangpokpi Forest Division Office Complex.
The event aimed at raising awareness about forest and wildlife conservation among the public, especially the younger generation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi, Amandeep highlighted the importance of harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife.
He urged the bikers to become ambassadors of conservation by carrying forward the message of protecting forests and wildlife in their respective communities.
He emphasized that the role of responsible citizens is crucial in ensuring that future generations inherit a green and safe environment.
The enthusiastic participation of the Eimi Riders Manipur made the rally a vibrant and impactful awareness campaign, spreading the call for collective action in safeguarding the natural heritage.
CHANDEL
The 71st Wildlife Week was officially launched at Lambung Community Hall, Chandel, with a conclusion event of the Sewa Parv 2025, drawing the participation of local residents, school students, SHG members, ASHA workers, and village leaders.
The event was graced by ADC Chandel, Md Firoj Khan; DFO Chandel, Dr N Munal Meitei; vice-president of Naga Hoho, David Boyes; Asst Commander of 21 AR, Vishal Raj, and village chief of Lambung village, Noah Langhu, among others as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr N Munal Meitei highlighted that the programme is part of the Nation First @ 75 campaign, a nationwide initiative from September 17 to October 2 to mark the completion of 75 years of PM Narendra Modi.
He informed that over 2,000 tree saplings had been planted during the observance, coupled with various awareness activities including rallies and educational programmes.
He lauded the people of Chandel for their active role in making the event a meaningful success.
On the arrival of the 71st Wildlife Week 2025, Dr Munal urged the public to join hands in conserving biodiversity and protecting forests, pledging to safeguard Chandel's natural heritage.
The gathering also saw students and citizens plant saplings as a symbolic step towards protecting wildlife.
TAMENGLONG
The Tamenglong Forest Division, in collaboration with Rainforest Club Tamenglong and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), today marked the 71st Wildlife Week with a special awareness programme on 'Bear Conservation' at Trinity Public School, Tamenglong.
The event was attended by Kh Hitler Singh, District Forest Officer of Tamenglong Forest Division as president; Josiah Pamei, Additional SP Tamenglong as guest of honour; along with Range Officer Joel Gangmei; members of village authorities from several members, and school students.
During the event, Resource Person Dr Sushanto Gauda, Senior Field Officer, WTI, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on Human-Bear Conflict Management and Coexistence, outlining practical measures for reducing conflict and promoting safe coexistence between communities and bear populations.
Later the prizes were distributed to the winners of the Inter-School Painting Competition and Essay Competitions, held as part of the Wildlife Week activities.
The village authority members were also honoured by presenting red blankets and mementos in recognition of their role in conservation efforts.
TENGNOUPAL
The weeklong observance of Wildlife Week 2025 was also launched today in Tengnoupal district by the Deputy Conservator of Forest Mahamuda Begum.
As part of the launch event, a foot rally was organised at the district headquarter, with enthusiastic participation from school students on the theme "Human Wildlife Coexistence".
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Conservator Mahamuda Begum urged everyone to join hands in the protection and conservation of wildlife.
She stressed that safeguarding wildlife is the responsibility of all citizens, emphasizing the importance of not disturbing natural habitats.
The event was also attended by Range Forest Officer of Tengnoupal Md Salauddin, Range Forest Officer of Moreh Stephen Tauthang, along with staff of Moreh and Tengnoupal Forest Range.
