DGP scotches rumours of underhand dealing in recruitment of ASIs, SIs

Imphal, July 02 2010: Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, Y Joykumar today scotched rumuours of any kind of underhand dealing in the process for recruitment of Assistant Sub-Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors in the Police Department, and assured of transparent recruitment process free from all sorts of malpractices.

Addressing a press conference held at the conference hall of the Imphal West District Police, DGP Joykumar also claimed that the undergrounds were not able to operate in the valley areas of the state.

The DGP said that the Border Security Force (BSF) is at present conducting the physical efficiency test for the recruitment of the SIs and ASIs of the police department.

No personnel of the Manipur Police Department or local man in the BSF are engaged in the process.

People need not have any apprehension about conducting the DPC in an unfair manner, DGP Joykumar said and appealed to the people not to believe the rumours that may be doing the rounds alleging that favouritism and nepotism were taking place in the selection of candidates.

In case of any report of bribery in the selection of candidates, any complaint may be lodged with the SP of the district concerned.

Appropriate action will be taken against the erring personnel or official, if any, DGP Joykumar categorically assured.

He also appealed to the candidates to come in time on the day their physical efficiency tests have to be conducted.

He said, he has received reports that some candidates who have connections with some powerful people in the government were coming earlier or later against the scheduled date to have their physical efficiency test conducted.

For those candidates who could not attend the PET due to certain unavoidable reasons, the DPC committee will give a second chance on another appropriate date.

In case no PET could be conducted on a certain date due to bad weather condition, the authority would fix another date to ensure participation fo all intending candidates, he assured.

In reply to questions from reporters with regard to the delay in the declaration of results of the DPC for recruitment of Village Defense Force (VDF), DGP Joykumar said that result of most of the DPC for the hill districts had been declared.

But the declaration of the results for Imphal East, West and Thoubal is still pending.

The result may be declared at any time as the department is under hectic process.

The main reason behind the non-declaration of the result is the accommodation of them at the training centre which is needed before they are sending out to VDF outposts, he hinted asserting that offer forms for DPC cleared 1,600 constable drivers and 2,500 riflemen are yet to distribute due to the same reason.

On the other hand, the verification for the selected constable (driver) and riflemen are also under progress.

Their background and any cases involving them are verifying by both police and intelligence bureau, he said.

Giving reply to another question regarding the saturated state of the strength of the police department, the DPGP went on to say that still there are over 4000 vacant posts constables in the police department.

Recruitments to fill up posts of 400 SI and ASI personnel and 652 women personnel will also coming up within a short time, he said adding that after the completion of imparting training to around 4000 constables and riflemen whose training is on now, the strength of the manpower of the state police department would around 33,000.Once the strength attained, the department could function properly, he asserted.

The DGP further said that the police training centre at Pangei was established with an intake capacity of only 1500 personnel at a time but currently around 4000 personnel are imparting training.

However, there is no need for fearing that personnel currently under training will not get proper training.

The training is going on in a routine manner.

No personnel will be given passing out without proper training by shortening their training period despite the bad law and order situation, he assured.

Talking on the present status of counter insurgency operation in the state, most of the undergrounds are taking shelter outside the state, particularly in Myanmar.

In the valley area, they could not stay.

Underground could not lay ambush on the security forces even though it was done years back except threatening and extorting money by using hand grenade.

Police is trying its best to control the same, the DGP said.
