Consumer's Club, Manipur along with state Weights and Measure Department today carried out a surprised inspection at Pishum Bazar in Imphal west district.
A press statement of the club signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ph Tomchou informed that a number of vendors and shopkeepers were found not using standard weights and scales approved by the government in their trade thereby cheating the customers.
In today's drive, three weights measuring tools and 11 scales were confiscated by the department for failing to comply with the rules.
Some weights and scales were given certificates of verification under Schedule See Rule 16(3) which will remain be valid for two years.
A sum of Rs 1,370 was collected by the Department as fees for verification and issuing certificates.
The statement also mentioned that a column will be started by the Manipuri edition of this paper on every Mondays for giving replies to various queries of the consumers.
The column will commence from July 12 next.
