Speaking on the occasion, retired Associate Professor, Y Modhu Singh said that the role played by WORDT in promoting the welfare of widows was commendable and deserving of recognition, even suggesting that the organisation be recommended for awards such as the Karma Yogi Award.
He said widowhood was a matter of fade and urged widows not to lose moral strength, but instead remain resilient and raise their children to become successful individuals.
Author WORDT, N Gunindro said that Widows' Day was not a celebration of widowhood, but an effort to bring moments of happiness and relief to widows, helping them overcome sorrow and despair following the loss of their husbands.
He appealed to the public not to view the observance negatively as a celebration.
He said that since 2017, WORDT has organised around 538 programmes for the welfare of widows, and has several more initiatives planned.
Highlighting future plans, he said that considering Manipur's limited resources, the Trust intents to promote work culture through livelihood activities such as the cultivation of chives (nakuppi), potato, garlic, etc, in the empty fields of the state to support sustainable income generation and contribute to the State's economy.
As part of the event, around 3,000 members of the WORDT were honoured with gifts from the trust, providing an opportunity for interaction.
The dignitaries present were also felicitated with Lengyan as a mark of respect.
