Ukhrul, May 23 2025:
The JAC for Justice of AS Thotshang has declined to claim the deceased's body until the government meets their demands, which include apprehending the perpetrator(s) within 48 hours.
Addressing a press conference held in Phungreitang, Ukhrul town, here on Friday evening, JAC convenor Shomi Angkang outlined their charter of demands, insisting that the authorities must identify and apprehend the culprit(s) within the specified timeframe.
He also stated that the JAC demands the recovery and return of all belongings of the deceased to his family, including an Alto K10 vehicle, a mobile phone, and a wallet containing an ATM card, PAN card, and Aadhaar card.
Shomi further demanded that the government provide an ex-gratia payment to the bereaved family and a suitable government job for the next of kin.
"Should the authorities fail to meet our demands, the JAC will not claim the body and will initiate intense protests," he cautioned.
Attending the press conference, Tashar village headman AS Shinmi related that AS Thotshang, 45, s/o AS Chinaongam from Tashar village, and currently residing in Hamleikhong, A-Block, Hungpung, was found murdered in the room of one Abiss Uddin, alias Chottu, a mechanic at Mona Workshop, Awungtang Hungpungcovered with a blanket in a pool of blood.
Shinmi said that Thotshang was a teacher at T Shimin Government Lower Primary School, Tashar village, Ukhrul.
On the afternoon of May 20, 2025, around 2:30 pm, Abiss Uddin called out Thotshang from his house and drove away in Thotshang's white Alto K10 (MNO3P 5052) towards Mona Workshop.
That night, Thotshang did not return home, prompting his family to enquire about his whereabouts the following day.
Despite reaching out to some of his friends, they were unable to locate him.
Later that evening, some friends informed the family that Thotshang had been with Abiss Uddin the previous afternoon.
After lengthy discussions near the workshop with Thoi Thoi, Mona's brother, and finding no answers, the family lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Ukhrul police station around 11 pm, Shinmi stated.
It was only on May 22 that the victim's body was recovered in a decomposed state, following an intense search launched by the family with assistance from the Awungtang & Kasomtang Organisation, Hungpung, he added.
The press conference was also attended by JAC co-convenor Ngamthing Seipainao and other members.
