Maram, October 21 2025:
In a green initiative to make this year's Diwali celebration more eco-friendly, the Maram Bazar Youths and Students Organisation (MBYSO) carried out a tree plantation drive at Maram Bazar commercial town on Monday.
The MBYSO in a release stated that the activity aimed to augment the existing greenery by planting new decorative trees and replacing old or worn-out ones around the town.
Senior member of the organisation, Pungdi P Celestine, said that the plantation drive is a follow up endeavour to "Adoption of Trees" initiative launched to conserve the standing trees in the town.
He noted that many of the original trees had been planted in 2012 under the Maram Students' "Go-Green Mission".
Celestine added that planting trees during the Diwali season was a meaningful way to express gratitude towards nature and give back to Mother Earth.
The augmentation event witnessed active participation from community leaders and villagers who had previously adopted and cared for the decorative trees.
Among the attendees were former Deputy Speaker K Raina; Dr Ngouniba Peter, NPO President Kuba Peter, former ADC members, Luba Thomas, A Rang, and several village leaders including Karaihing Abraham and RP Joseph.
The "Adoption of Trees" concept, first initiated in 2023, honors the legacy of village pioneers, elders, and historical figures by dedicating trees in their memory.
Villagers believe that maintaining greenery within the marketplace not only beautifies Maram Bazar but also promotes environmental awareness among visitors.
As Maram Bazar continues to grow as a commercial hub, the MBYSO emphasized that such green initiatives are vital for preserving the environment and fostering a sense of ecological responsibility.
