Jiribam, February 19 2026:
Waikhom Birahari Singh, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, has stated that out of the total 1.5 lakh persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the State, only around 16,000 are currently holding the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card.
He noted that Jiribam district has comparatively lower UDID coverage than other districts, prompting his visit to assess the situation.
Bihari was addressing a press conference held at the ICD Campus, Lakhipur, in Jiribam today.
Highlighting the importance of the UDID certificate, he said that there are 21 recognised types of disabilities and that possessing the UDID card enables PwDs to access a range of benefits, including free education and various schemes and assistance provided by government departments and nongovernmental organisations.
He further informed that a special awareness and assessment camp will be conducted on March 29 and 30 to facilitate disability certification and UDID registration.
Qualified specialist doctors from Imphal will attend the camp to assess applicants.
Appealing to eligible individuals to take advantage of the opportunity, Birahari urged PwDs to visit the ICD Office located at the ARM Complex and complete the registration by meeting S Priyokumar Singh.
The press conference was also attended by Laishram Tokendra Ricky, exchairperson of RCI, NEZCC and advisor of the Memorial Award Committee, along with other ICD officials.
