Imphal, April 18 2026:
In a serious accusation, a resident of Singjamei Chingamakha Oinam Leirak has claimed that CRPF and RAF personnel broke the glass windows of three parked cars on the pretext of controlling protesters on Thursday night.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Irom Satiskumar, a resident of Singjamei Chingamakha Oinam Leirak, said he was at home when a massive torch rally was staged in the area.
He stated that some of the tear gas shells fired by security personnel landed in residential areas, including on rooftops.
Satiskumar explained that he heard a shattering sound around 11 pm, and upon checking, found the glass windows of his Maruti Alto, parked outside his house, damaged.
He also claimed that security forces kicked open residential gates and vandalized vehicles inside.
Condemning the conduct of the Central security personnel, he urged the Government to look into the matter and do the needful.
Thokchom ongbi Jati from the same locality stated that security personnel destroyed a Maruti car and a Tata Magic parked in her courtyard.
She added that another Maruti 800 parked outside her house was also damaged by the security forces.
Saying that the Central security personnel intruded into her house and acted harshly, she called on the Government to take action against the security personnel involved.
Meanwhile, Government officials said that there are elements trying to take advantage of the prevailing situation in the State for their anti-Government and anti security forces agendas.
They said that thousands of people took out a torch rally in Singjamei areas by defying prohibitory orders, protesting the recent bomb attack that killed a baby and her brother at Tronglaobi.
Claiming that some protesters raised slogans against the security personnel and verbally abused the personnel deployed at the spot, the officials added that security personnel who were outnumbered asked the protesters to turn back when they reached Chingmakha as prohibitory orders were in place, leading to a confrontation.
Security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells and resorted to baton charges as the situation turned violent, they said and several youths also pelted stones at the security forces.
Several persons were injured in the clash with at least five taken to a nearby hospital, they said.
