Moirang, July 13 2026:
Former Oinam MLA Laishram Radhakishore has urged the State Government to reconsider its decision to disengage muster roll employees above the age of 60 and re-engage 13 such workers serving at the Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) Project.
Addressing a press conference at LLI Pump House No 1 on Monday, Radhakishore said the Government's July 10 order directing the removal of muster roll, casual and daily wage employees who have crossed the age of 60 would severely affect the functioning of the Loktak Lift Irrigation Project.
He said the affected employees have been serving at LLI Pump Houses Nos.1, 2 and 3 since the project's inception and have continued to ensure the supply of irrigation water to farmers through the canal network.
Radhakishore pointed out that the employees report for duty from 6 am to 5 pm every day and play a vital role in operating the pump houses, especially during the ongoing agricultural season.
He expressed concern that while the Government has decided to disengage the workers, no arrangements have been made to replace them, which could disrupt the release of irrigation water and adversely affect farmers.
Appealing to the Government to review the matter, the former MLA urged that the experienced workers be re-engaged in the interest of uninterrupted irrigation services.
One of the affected employees, who also spoke at the press conference, said the workers have been serving the project for decades and depend on the job for their livelihood.
He appealed to the Government to consider their long years of service and expertise before implementing the order.
Several muster roll employees of the Loktak Lift Irrigation Project were present at the press conference.
