Chandel, July 10 2026:
A two-member team from the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, visited Chandel district on Friday to assess preparedness for the rollout of the VB-G-RAM-G Act, 2025, and facilitate its implementation.
The team, comprising Ramavatar Meena, Director, Department of Rural Development (DoRD), and Sankhil RL, Section Officer, DoRD, reviewed the district's readiness and interacted with officials and beneficiaries during the assessment visit.
Addressing a review meeting, Ramavatar Meena stressed the need for proper planning and preparedness to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme, which is based on the principle of "Employment with Dignity" and aims to provide wage employment while creating durable public assets for long-term village development.
He urged officials to prepare effective Village Development Gram Panchayat Plans (VGPPs) and maintain an adequate shelf of works to ensure continuous employment.
He also reminded officials that workers are entitled to unemployment allowance if work is not provided within the stipulated period and expressed concern over the limited number of ongoing works despite the large number of Gram Panchayats, calling for an expanded pipeline of projects.
Deputy Commissioner Hemant Kumar briefed the visiting team on the challenges faced in implementing the programme in Chandel, including difficulties in generating person-days, poor road and internet connectivity, and issues arising from the presence of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) .
Despite these constraints, the Deputy Commissioner said Chandel has emerged as one of the bestperforming districts under the programme and lauded the officers and staff involved for their dedication and commitment.
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Officers, officials and staff of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Chandel.
As part of the visit, the Central team also interacted with district and block-level officials, field functionaries and job card holders and visited Lambung, Mantri Pantha and Monsang Pantha villages to review ongoing works and assess implementation mechanisms at the grassroots level.
