Imphal, May 07 2026:
The Minorities Students' Association (MSA), Manipur has alleged multiple irregularities in two schools under the Waqf Board-Ehsas School, Mayang Imphal and Madrasa Jamia Khadij atul Qubra, Khelakhong- after an inspection on May 7 .
In a release, MSA said Md Irfan, son of Waqf Board member Alhaj Md Iqbal Ahmed, was found working as a teacher at Ehsas School.
Irfan's father was among 10 board members whose term ended on March 31, 2026 .
When asked.
Irfan said he was "engaged" but did not clarify if he was regular or on contract, the association said.
MSA questioned why Irfan, a resident of Lilong, was appointed at Ehsas School in Mayang Imphal, instead of a local candidate.
It claimed Irfan's name was earlier on the regular teachers' list but was later removed.
During the visit, a man identified as Salaodin of Bengoon, Mayang Imphal, who claimed to be an MTS at the school, allegedly intimidated the team and threatened to file a police case, MSA said.
School Principal Md Rahim, who is also Project Officer for Madrasa Modernisation at the Waqf Board, was present but did not comment, the association added.
At Madrasa Jamia Khadijatul Qubra, MSA said retired teacher Md Siraj Ahamad, who superannuated in January, was found posted there.
The Principal reportedly told the team that the Madrasa was excluded from the 30-school Madrasa Modernisation scheme this year and from fund releases and 2026 construction grants.
MSA asked how teachers were being appointed and whether funds were being "diverted".
The association also said that despite the CEO's earlier statement that new Waqf Board schools would provide free books, uniforms and no admission fees, both schools were found collecting admission fees and charging for ID cards.
MSA said it had earlier submitted a representation to higher authorities seeking action against those responsible, but no steps had been taken.
The body urged Meitei Pangals to "unite" and act against alleged irregularities in the Waqf Board.
It linked the issue to recent protests against the Waqf Bill, saying the community had opposed the Bill but was silent on problems within the Manipur Waqf Board.
