Delivering the keynote address, Raees Ahamed Tampak, general secretary, UMPC, termed the circulation of "communal sentiments" on social media as unfortunate as they may create tensions and divisions among different communities.
The war raging on social media caused by venom injected into the communities of the State both from within and outside is quite disturbing, he said.
It is important for people to be aware of external factors that seek to dismantle the close bonds between communities who have witnessed the history of Manipur unfold.
Under such circumstances, it is imperative for people of Manipur to know their history and origin and strengthen the relations between various communities.
The symposium was organised to fill this gap, he added.
The UMPC general secretary also advised people to stay away from the toxic social media war.
Further, he appealed to those operating under the garb of "historian" and spreading toxicity and hatred to stop such acts.
Instead, he advocated for open dialogue to put an end to the conflict.
