Senapati, May 29 2026:
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Thursday issued a four-day ultimatum to the State Government to ensure the release of six Naga hostages.
The Association warned that failure to meet this demand may compel them to boycott the Government.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Senapati district headquarters.
Th Angteshang Maring, president of ANSAM, emphasised that the Naga people are peace-loving and committed to peace.
Following negotiations between the Government of Manipur and the United Naga Council (UNC) regarding the release of the remaining six Naga hostages, ANSAM convened an emergency presidential council meeting with its unit presidents and resolved to stand firmly with the UNC's decisions.
The six Naga civilians were abducted by Kuki militants on May 13 in broad daylight.
Despite 15 days passing since the incident, the whereabouts of the hostages remain unknown.
In line with the UNC's guidance, ANSAM demanded that the State Government establish the status of the six hostages and ensure their safe return to the Naga people within four days.
Angteshang Maring stated that ANSAM may be forced to boycott the State Government and even call on Naga legislators to withdraw support from the current Government led by Chief Minister Y Khemchand if their demand is not entertained.
