Training programmes on beekeeping, food processing conducted

A 2-day training programme for Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) of the State began today at the College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
Themed "Empowering FPCs of Manipur: Training on Food Processing, Value Addition, Food Safety Standards & Packaging Excellence", the programme was organised by the College of Food Technology under the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur.
The inaugural function held at the conference hall of the college in Lamphelpat was graced by Prof Ph Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education, CAU Imphal; Redy Yumna, proprietor, Puni Enterprises Konthoujam; Dr Ng Joykumar Singh, Professor, College of Food Technology, Imphal; and Prof Ng Iboyaima Singh, Dean, College of Food Technology, Imphal as presidium members.
Moreover, the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Honey Bees and Pollinators, CAU, Imphal has also successfully conducted a 2-day training programme on "Promotion of Plantation, Bee Friendly Plants/Flora/Bee Garden in Manipur".
Altogether, 30 farmers from four districts- Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Kamjong, enthusiastically participated in the training programme held at the training hall of Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre (IBDC), College of Agriculture (COA) in Iroisemba.
During the two-day event, resource persons Dr P Bhumita, Co-Principal Investigator, COA: Dr Jeti Konsam, Assistant Entomologist; Prof K Mamocha, Head, Department of Entomology; Dr Kh Ibohal Singh and bee professional Arambam Suchitra Devi gave valuable insights on advanced beekeeping technologies, hive management, marketing, etc.
They informed that beekeeping is becoming a profitable income generating activity for people of all ages because of the high demand of honey and bee related products.
Highlighting that beekeeping requires minimal start-up investment & training, they encouraged farmers to take up beekeeping for a sustainable income.
