Imphal, April 26 2026:
The Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council, has condemned the recent statements by the Chief Minister on the National Register of Citizens update, calling them misleading and harmful to the State's social fabric.
The party's stand was adopted today at the 57th Conference of CPI Konthoujam Local Council, held at Kangmong Langoljam Farming Hall.
In a press statement, the CPI Konthoujam Local unit said the CM's comments to the media on the NRC process do not reflect the ground reality or the urgent needs of the people.
The CPI demanded a proper and transparent update of the NRC to address demographic concerns in the State.
It also sought urgent steps to curb the rising prices of essential commodities, saying inflation has hit common households hard.
The party further demanded the deployment of a dedicated force to secure Manipur's highway lifelines, which it termed vital for supply and movement.
It called for the resettlement of internally displaced persons at their original homes without further delay.
Appealing for peace, the CPI urged both State and Central Governments to work for a swift, peaceful and permanent solution to the prevailing crisis.
The conference was presided over by veteran members Okram Itombi and Khundongbam Bhuban.
Presentation of the organisation and political report, and formation of a new executive body for the Local Council were the other highlights.
