Imphal, March 20 2025:
Protesting an order issued by the Department of Higher and Technical Education Commissioner on March 18 whereby six teachers of DM College of Teachers' Education (DMCTE) were transferred away, students of the college today blocked roads within DM University campus.
On receiving information about the blocking of roads, police personnel deployed in nearby areas rushed to the spot.
As the police personnel asked the students to stop blocking the roads, there was a brief altercation between the two sides but there was no untoward incident.
DMCTE Trainees' Union sports secretary Takhellambam Prem, citing National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) Rules, said that MEd and MEd colleges should have at least 30 teachers including Principals.
DMCTE has been already suffering from shortage of teachers but six more teachers were transferred away recently, he decried.
Another teacher was transferred away one month back.
These illogical transfers have led to serious doubts on whether the Government intends to abolish the college, Prem said.
Appealing to the Government to revoke the recent transfer order immediately, Prem said that the students would be compelled to launch more intense agitation if the transfer order is not revoked.
The agitating students held placards which read as "We condemn transfer of teachers", "Revoke the transfer order immediately" etc.
