Polio immunization campaign kicks off

In a significant step towards polio eradication, the Sub-National Immunization Day (SNID) 2025 was launched in different districts of the State as part of the National programme for Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI).
The immunization campaign will conclude on October 14 .
CHANDEL
At Chandel, the districtlevel launching programme was initiated by the Department of Health & Family Welfare and held at Old Japhou Market, District Headquarters, Chandel.
Chief Medical Officer of Chandel, Dr Joyson Matthew Monsang, SDC/HQ Mothel Saka and District Immunization Officer Dr B Chingdeihnieng graced the occasion as distinguished guests.
In his address, Dr Monsang highlighted the significance of the polio vaccine and the IPPI program in India.
He emphasized the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation and appealed to parents to ensure their children receive two drops of Oral Poliovirus Vaccine (OPV) during the campaign.
Dr Monsang assured that the Health Society in Chandel would strive to reach every comer of the district to administer the vaccine.
The programme was attended by health workers, ASHA facilitators and workers, Anganwadi workers, and other community mobilizers, including parents and caregivers.
Following the launch, the dignitaries administered the polio vaccine to the children present, marking the beginning of the immunization drive.
CHURACHANDPUR
Deputy Commissioner/Chairman DHS Dharun Kumar S, IAS, launched SNID and IPPI campaign today at the District Immunization Centre, Churachandpur.
Polio vaccine was administered by the DC and team to children at the launching site.
The polio vaccination campaign was organized by District Health Society, Churachandpur in collaboration with the Office of the District Family Welfare Officer, targeting children aged 0 to 5 to receive 100% Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) dose including newborns, to stop wild polio virus circulation, sustain immunization efforts and Monitor Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) cases.
In her welcome and keynote address, Dr Kh Sania Monica, District Family Welfare Officer, Churachandpur highlighted the importance of SNID/IPPI campaign.
She said that the SNID campaign is a crucial strategy to eliminate and eradicate vac-cine-preventable diseases, including poliomyelitis.
Under this campaign, all children aged 0-5 years will receive polio vaccination over three days.
On the first day, designated booths will be set up where children can be vaccinated.
This will be followed by a house- to-house campaign to ensure no child is left behind on October 13 and 14, she said.
Regarding the district level efforts, she said that 326 booths have been set up, aiming to vaccinate approximately 27,110 children, with 1,405 vaccinators and 65 designated supervisors overseeing the process.
On behalf of the District Health Society and District Family Welfare Department, she appealed to all parents to bring their children to the designated booths for vaccination and urged them to work together to protect children from the debilitating disease.
Speaking as the chief guest, the DC Dharun Kumar said that the launching of the district has a large number of villages, ranging from small to big populations, with some being located in remote areas that require extra effort from their staff to reach.
Saying that many parents in remote areas may not be aware of the vaccines available, he appealed to parents and guardians to get their children vaccinated at any of the centres provided by the District Family Welfare and CMO team.
The launching programme was attended by Dr T Vanlalkungi, CMO, Churachandpur; Dr Tinglonlei Thangluai, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Churachandpur; Vung Mary, District Community Mobilizer; K Lamsanglian, District Programme Manager/NHM; CMC students, GNM students, officials concerned, staff of the PHC, Anganwadi workers, ANMs, parents and guardians of the children among others.
JIRIBAM
Jiribam Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar IAS kicked off the district level launching programme of SNID/IPPI 2025 today.
A total of 75 polio booths were set up in the district and 3903 children were administered polio vaccine.
Eighty-five percent of the district was covered during the campaign.
SENAPATI
District Health Society, Senapati organized the polio Sub National Immunization Day at Traffic Point, Senapati Bazar on Sunday.
The occasion was graced by Rang David Kung, MCS, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Senapati as the chief guest; Dr Sumpi Percy, CMO, Senapati as the guest of honour and Dr Helen Shimray, MS, District Hospital, Senapati as the functional president.
In her public address, Dr Sumpi Percy stated that although no polio cases have been found in India since many years, a State like Manipur is very vulnerable to the disease.
Moreover, polio is still present in neighbouring countries with the possibility of imported cases.
As a result, such polio immunization has been taken up by the Government of India from time to time.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Addl DC stated that every parent should aim to eliminate all kinds of disease if one aspires to keep a healthy society or community.
While lauding the ASHA workers for their role as the grassroot village level workers, Rang David Kung urged them to carry out the immunization program in their own jurisdictions.
Further, he appealed to everyone to give full cooperation to the ASHA workers in their own villages.
ASHA workers were dispatched to their own jurisdictions to administer polio drops to children of the region.
District Immunization Officer, Senapati later pronounced the vote of thanks.
