Imphal, August 12 2025:
One fraud has allegedly collected around Rs 15 lakh from 27 persons with false promise of giving them fishery and piggery loans.
Speaking to media persons at Mayang Imphal yesterday, Kshetrimayum Sanatomba said that an NGO named Giving Hand Foundation, North East Zone which has its office at Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak organised a training programme on "Integrated Farming, Soil Conservation and Wetland Conservation" from December 17 to 21, 2023 in the indoor hall of Brave Boys' Association (BBA) at Mayang Imphal.
Speaking at the training programme, Giving Hand Foundation, North East Zone chairman Nandeibam Surjabar alias Tanthan promised loans with 30 per cent subsidy to fish and pig farmers.
Saying that farmers who wished to take the loans must deposit 10 percent of their loan amounts, Surjabar alias Tanthan collected around Rs 15 lakh from 27 farmers, Sanatomba said.
Apart from signing an agreement between the farmers (loanees) and Giving Hand Foundation, Surjabar alias Tanthan even distributed (loan) sanctioned letters to the farmers.
Saying that accounts have been opened in the names of the loanees at IDF Fast Bank, Surjabar alias Tanthan assured the loanees that loans would be credited to their bank accounts.
But so far no loan amount has been credited in the bank accounts of any of the fanners/loanees, Sanatomba said.
As they did not get the promised loans for a long time, the farmers made enquiries about the Giving Hand Foundation and it turned out that its chairman Surjabar alias Tanthan is a fraud, Sanatomba said.
Subsequently, the farmers asked Surjabar alias Tanthan inside an Advocate's chamber at Nambol on July 27, 2024 to pay back the money he collected from them.
Even though Surjabar alias Tanthan signed an undertaking promising to pay back the amount he collected, he disappeared without any trace.
Even though the duped farmers went to Surjabar's home at Moirangkhom several times, they could not meet him.
His house was found locked, Sanatomba said.
He then appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter and see that the poor farmers get back the money they gave to the fraud with the hope of getting loans.
