MAYOL urges ethical voting at Kumbi awareness meet

Kumbi, July 12 2026:
The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), as part of its year-long mass awareness campaign, "Politics: Vote for National Regeneration," organised a public meeting at Ibudhou Esing Chaiba Community Hall.
Kumbi Sandhong, on Sunday to promote ethical and informed voting ahead of future elections.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Apunba Ema Lup.
Kumbi, and Apunba Club, Kumbi.
The meeting was attended by UCM District Secretary Nongmaithem Iboton, Apunba Ema Lup president Yambem Ongbi Joykumari, Apunba Club president Konjengbam Neta and Sunday Campaigner Kh Indrakumar as dais members.
Advocate Thokchom Suresh and Koijam Suresh served as resource persons.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Thokchom Suresh said voters should question aspiring representatives about their intentions before electing them, and determine whether they genuinely seek to serve the people or are driven by personal interests.
He also urged prospective candidates to refrain from making false promises and to understand the aspirations and concerns of the people.
MAYOL president Koijam Suresh appealed to the public to pledge not to accept money during elections, saying the quality of politics determines whether a society progresses or declines.
Politics, he remarked, ultimately shapes the future of the people.
UCM District Secretary Nongmaithem Iboton said that if citizens exercised their voting rights responsibly without accepting money or inducements, awareness campaigns such as the one launched by MAYOL would not have been necessary.
Sunday Campaigner Kh Indrakumar urged people not to seek money or favours from candidates during elections, including funds for clubs, community halls or other local projects, and instead elect honest and responsible representatives.
Apunba Ema Lup president Yambem Ongbi Joykumari appealed for public support to MAYOL's campaign and urged residents not to allow election posters to be pasted on their houses.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Sanatombi, an inmate of the Kumbi Relief Camp, said that despite her family's financial hardship, she had resolved not to accept money or any favour from candidates in future elections, adding that the campaign had inspired her to make the pledge.
