Imphal, April 06 2026:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) successfully conducted a one-day awareness programme on "Crime Against Women: Redressal Mechanism" today at the Mayanglangjing Taning Community Hall in Imphal West.
Dignitaries including Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of MSCW; W Phajatombi Devi, Member Secretary of MSCW and Additional Director (IPR), Manipur; Nongmaithem Prabeena Devi, District Mission Manager, Haorangsabal CD Block, Imphal West; and other esteemed guests attended the programme, alongside members of Self Help Groups and Village Level Federations (VLFs).
Speaking on the occasion, Tiningpham Monsang highlighted the programme's aim to empower women, urging them to recognize their worth and live with dignity.
She emphasized that women's rights are fundamental human rights and noted that despite numerous laws enacted for their protection, many women remain unaware of these legal provisions.
The Commission, established in 2006, regularly conducts such legal awareness programmes as part of its initiative to inform women of their rights and available legal remedies, she said.
Phajatombi Devi expressed gratitude to the four VLFs of Mayanglangjing - Leibaklei VLF, Sangai VLF, Mangal VLF, and Pandam VLF - for their initiative in sponsoring the programme.
She highlighted the Commission's role as part of the National Commission for Women, noting its recognition from the apex body for its proactive functioning within the state of Manipur.
Prabeena Devi addressed the normalization of domestic violence in society.
She urged women to be courageous, speak out against injustice at the very first instance, and seek legal recourse to ensure justice and protection.
The event concluded with a technical session on "Crime Against Women: Redressal Mechanism" presented by Thiyam Rajkishore, an advocate.
