Imphal, May 26 2010: Declaring that without unity amongst the various indigenous groups of people in the North east region fate of individual ethnic group would go hay wire, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has urged the leaders of Naga hoho to act with maturity rather than abuse individual community with concocted charges.

An AMUCO release issued by its publicity secretary observed that from being a much revered revolutionary group of the region, the NSCN (IM) abandoning its goal of sovereignty and the Naga Hoho lashing out against a particular community reflect frustration of both the armed and unarmed groups.

Pointing out that rather than adopting reconciliatory measures to find an amicable solution to the current impasse, issuing unrestrained and inflammatory comments through the media is against the very concept of peace coexistence, AMUCO opined that the time has come for the NSCN (IM) and Naga Hoho to accommodate intellectual feedbacks to come out of the present quagmire.

Subtly remarking that it understands who suffers the most when economic blockades are enforced, AMUCO suggested that all possible precaution should be taken up to ensure that the common people do not endure hardships because of activities projected as 'for the cause of the people'.

Citing the example of the sanction imposed by the US Government on Cuba since 1965, AMUCO said that on the contrary the sanction has had little or no impact and Cuba's progress is based on its strong belief and ideology, which the NSCN (IM) and Naga Hoho should realise.

Even though the intended target for resorting to economic blockade is to imperil settlers of valley districts which means the majority community, the entire population of manipur pass through period of inconveniences when the lifelines are cut off, said the statement.

It further noted that blockades of the past used to create various problems but as the frequency increased, the people began to cope with such disruptions and nowadays the people seem ready to adjust and even welcome more stringent economic blockades, for such a situation provide one to demonstrate even more determination to safeguard the territorial and emotional integrity of Manipur.

Moreover, there is no need to remind that Manipuris have had their fair share of hardships from the time when kings ruled and the British invaded the then independent Manipur, AMUCO said while opining that the current phase of tension and hardships besetting the people and inaction by the Centre to redress grievances of the public might be yet another test of tolerance of the Manipuris by the Central Government.

Invalidating the claim for a greater nagaland by the NSCN (IM), AMUCO referred to non-participation of tribal people of Manipur when AZ Phizo initiated the Kohima Plebiscite on May 16, 1951 in addition to over 1 lakh people of Tuensang district abstaining from the said exercise.

Even though lack of unanimity among the nagas could be considered as the closing scene of the Greater Nagaland dream, the same agenda was pursued through a resolution of the Nagaland Assembly on December 12, 1964 wherein the Government of India was pressurised to amalgamate certain portions of neighbouring states with Nagaland.

In addition to a Christian Missionary namely Michael Stone endorsing demand for a greater Nagaland by carving out certain parts of Manipur, another Naga-land Assembly resolution of August 28, 1970 kept alive the Greater Nagaland agenda.

Continuous efforts to claim something that had never been a part of nagaland is 'worth appreciating' for such a tireless endeavour must be frustrating and painstaking, AMUCO maintained and hastened to add that under no circumstances should the Government of india attempt to distort history.

claiming that AMUCO had aptly demonstrated that it upholds the principle of peaceful coexistence and is promoting cordiality among 36 indigenous groups of people living in Manipur, it condemned the Naga Hoho for making baseless and derogatory remarks intended to provoke the majority community in Manipur.

dismissing the Hoho's outbursts as a sinister ploy to create divisions among the people that could ultimately validate claim by the NSCN faction that Nagas should live under a single administrative unit, AMUCO said the massive public rally of 1997 to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur need to be taken into account before any attempt is made to spark communal hatred.

Questioning what the stand of Naga Hoho was when many precious Naga lives were lost for defying 'Muivahnisation' of nagas, the statement said when Tangkhuls and their houses were targeted at Dimapur during a particular incident, AMUCO felt the pain.

Moreover, silence of the Naga hoho when Kukis were massacred by the NSCN (IM) and preferring to remain as a silent spectator when ANSAM launched the 52 days economic blockade with the intention of triggering food crisis in Manipur, as well as the brutal murder of Kasom khullen SDO and his subordinate staff by the NSCN (IM) are some incidents that forces one to question the sincerity of the rebel group and the Hoho.

AMUCO also expressed strong resentment that politicians are indulging in one upmanship when the people are facing shortage of essential commodities.
