Chief Minister O Ibobi singh has asserted that maximum effort is on to begin the first academic session of National Institute of Technology (NIT) from July this year.
Interacting with newspersons on the sideline of an inspection visit of NIT, Akampat complex today the CM said inspite of ongoing construction works ensuring all requisite infrastructure would take atleast two more years.
He said for the time being academic activities of the nIT would be undertaken at the Takyelpat premises of Government Polytechnic.
during the inspection visit today the CM assessed progress of hostel and staff quarter construction works and conveyed to newspersons that the NIT Director would arrive here later this month.
apart from informing that the NIT would have uninterrupted power supply and a police outpost established for full-proof security, he also announced that efforts would be made to ensure adequate supply of water.
O Ibobi called upon the people to extend cooperation in enabling smooth and disturbance free academic activities of NIT as the aim objective of setting up the Institute is to facilitate State natives/students pursue technical courses and explore their future beyond the periphery of Manipur.
On the otherhand, he conveyed that classes of National Indira Gandhi Tribal University had already commenced at the Adimjati complex of Tribal Research Institute from where the academic activities would be conducted on completion of the University's complex at Makhan village near Kanglatongbi.
Conceding that Manipur has limited natural resources compared to abundant human resource and that ensuring Government job to every educated unemployed youth is improbable in the near future, the CM expressed confidence that establishment and consequent commencement of sessions of the NIT, IGN Tribal University and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences would produce competent individuals.
He said people of Manipur are fortunate that the State has JNIMS, NIT and Tribal University to cater to requirements of ambitious students.
PHE Minister TN Haokip, Education Minister L Jayantakumar, Works Minister K Ranjit, PDA Chairman Kh Dr Loken and other top officials also accompanied the Chief Minister.
