Thoubal, April 20 2026:
In a show of solidarity with the state-wide five-day shutdown called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and various organisations, residents of Yairipok on Monday intensified protests by locking government offices and blocking key roads, condemning the alleged inaction and silence of the government.
The protest was spearheaded by the Nongpok Sayang Apunba Lup (NSAL), with active participation from local clubs, Meira Paibi groups, and members of the Meitei-Pangal community in the Yairipok area.
Demonstrators locked several government offices and staged road blockades at strategic locations, including Yairipok Thong and other roads passing through Yairipok Keithel, restricting vehicular movement.
Yairipok Keithel remained closed during the day, while other business establishments, banks, and educational institutions also suspended operations.
However, the shutdown was relaxed for essential services, including medical services, fire services, press media, and ritual ceremonies.
Later in the day, a public meeting was convened at the Yairipok Keithel Traffic Island, drawing participation from various clubs and Meira Paibi leaders.
Imagi Meira president Th Sujata, along with representatives from different clubs and Meira Paibi leaders, expressed their concerns over ongoing violence in the state and the government's silence on the Tronglaobi incident.
The meeting adopted several key resolutions, including: full endorsement of the five-day total shutdown, indefinite closure of government offices in Yairipok except for essential services, and a demand that the MLAs of Wangkhem, Andro, and Heirok constituencies publicly state their positions on the incident within three days.
Further, the meeting warned of a social boycott of the three MLAs if their stance goes against the sentiments of the people.
It also resolved to pursue talks with government authorities regarding the memorandum submitted by NSAL to the Chief Minister and to seek clarity on the steps taken so far.
The resolutions, unanimously adopted, reflect the community's determination to press for accountability, justice, and transparency regarding the Tronglaobi tragedy.
