KCP appeals to withdraw shutdown

Imphal, April 19 2026:
Saying that a prolonged shutdown punishes not the Government or the well-to-do households, but the very people who are already struggling to survive and students who have already suffered frequent interruptions in their education, the banned KCP has appealed to the Tronglaobi JAC to withdraw the five-day total shutdown in view of the severe disruption to livelihoods and the party's standing ban on bandhs, blockades and shutdowns in Kangleipak.
A press release issued by the outfit asserted that the outrage against the Tronglaobi killings is justified but the method (of seeking justice) is not.
The five-day total shutdown is not protest but economic suffocation for the most vulnerable.
The education sector is taking a severe hit.
Schools and colleges remain closed, disrupting learning for thousands of students.
Exams are delayed, academic momentum is broken, and young minds are left in uncertainty, it said.
The outfit asserted that it is of the view that, in regions already facing instability, education should be protected - not sacrificed.
"The party stands firmly with the victims' families.
We are also desperate for swift and uncompromising revenge.
But that must not come at the cost of collective punishment", it said.
Appealing to all those who are behind the five-day total shutdown to call it off immediately in the interests of the people of Kangleipak, the outfit said that it will always support any other form of mass protest towards justice for the Tronglaobi victims.
