RIMS hosts East Zone Burn CME 2026 on advances in burn care

Imphal, June 18 2026:
The Department of Plastic Surgery, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, today successfully organised the East Zone Bum CME 2026, drawing renowned experts, healthcare professionals, nursing personnel, and students to deliberate on the latest advances in bum care and management.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof Sameek Bhattacharya, President, National Academy of Bums, India, as chief guest.
Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, presided over the programme, while Prof L Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, attended as guest of honour.
Prof Akoijam Ibohal Singh, Head, Department of Plastic Surgery, RIMS, was also present.
In his address, Prof Bhattacharya lauded RIMS for its commitment to quality healthcare and its efforts toward NABH accreditation.
He noted that while kerosene-related bums have declined due to improved socio-economic conditions and government initiatives, scald bums among children are on the rise.
Stressing that bums remain a public health issue, he called for a multi-sectoral approach, safer homes, and comprehensive rehabilitation for survivors.
Prof N Sanjib Singh emphasised strengthening bum care services through continuous medical education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidencebased practices to improve patient outcomes.
The CME featured scientific sessions on bum management, reconstructive surgery, critical care, wound management, rehabilitation, and recent advances, with experts from within and outside the state presenting lectures.
Organisers thanked all speakers and delegates for their contributions.
Heads of Departments, faculty members, medical officers, nursing officials, postgraduate and undergraduate students participated enthusiastically, making the event a valuable platform for academic exchange and professional development.
