Will boycott census officials, says CJFD

Imphal, May 18 2026:
The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD) has stated that they will boycott all officials detailed for census operations even if the Government threatens them with punitive actions.
A public meeting on why NRC must precede census operations was held today at Mutum Phibou Mayai Leikai.
Speaking at the public meeting, CJFD finance secretary Sunil Karam said that the people will boycott census operations even if the Government chooses to dismiss the public demand and go ahead with the scheduled census operations.
"It is the duty of the present generation to struggle and fight collectively for the sake of the future generations", he said.
Since many years back, the illegal immigrants have been working consistently to take control of Manipur.
Whereas the indigenous people long for communal harmony and peaceful co-existence, the Government of India and its armed forces have been watching silently when illegal immigrants have been openly waging war and killing indigenous people, Sunil said.
Given this grave situation, carrying out census operations without first identifying the illegal immigrants would be a big step toward marginalization and annihilation of the indigenous people, he said.
Expressing surprise over the Government's announcement that people who oppose and obstruct census operations will be arrested and punished, the CJFD finance secretary asserted that it is only natural for the masses to boycott any step taken up by the Government if it is extremely unpopular and unacceptable under any circumstances.
CJFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba stated that it is natural for civil society organisations to exert pressure on the Government when it fails to work in the interest of the indigenous people.
By carrying out a sustained aggression, illegal immigrants have killed hundreds of indigenous people, burnt down thousands of houses and displaced tens of thousands of indigenous people.
The situation is so critical that all the indigenous people need to think of what they should do to save Manipur.
"We need to explore what practical steps we should take up instead of letting emotions influence our decision", Jeetendra said.
At the same time, the Government too must ponder over why the people are vehemently opposing the census operations.
It is true that the census data will help a lot in National or State planning.
But carrying out census operations without first identifying illegal immigrants is unacceptable, the CJFD convenor asserted.
He said that the illegal immigrants came to Manipur with a sinister motive to usurp the rights and opportunities of the indigenous people.
"We are only asking the Government to carry out census operations after illegal immigrants are identified", he added.
