Imphal, July 15 2026:
The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), as part of its yearlong mass awareness campaign, "Politics: Vote for National Regeneration," organised two public meetings on Wednesday at Kangu Chingjil Khullen Community Hall and at Ibudhou Sengmai Ningthou-Ibudhou Nongpok Ningthou Laibung to encourage greater public participation in politics and promote electoral awareness.
The meeting at Kangu Chingjil Khullen Community Hall was jointly organised with the Kangu Chingjil Khullen Meira Paibi.
Yaithengbam Leimaton, Chingangbam Mema, Sanjenbam Ito and Keisham attended as dais members, while cultural activist Narendra Ningomba and MAYOL president Koijam Suresh served as resource persons.
Addressing the gathering, Narendra Ningomba said the moral fabric of society has steadily weakened, resulting in the decline of public character and values.
He observed that the absence of ethical political practices has prevented the emergence of capable candidates and hindered voters from electing deserving representatives.
Koijam Suresh stressed that people's lack of interest and participation in politics has contributed to the present crisis in the State.
Describing politics as the force that determines the direction and future of society, he urged citizens to become more politically aware and actively engage in the democratic process.
The evening session, held at Ibudhou Sengmai Ningthou-Ibudhou Nongpok Ningthou Laibung, organised in collaboration with Nongma Panba Laibung Kaba Thousil Lup, Pallel, featured social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and Koijam Suresh as resource persons.
Mutum Chand Meitei, Sarangthem Birmani Singh and Takhellambam Nongendro Singh attended as dais members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dhanabir Laishram said the failure to ensure free and fair elections over the years has adversely affected society in many spheres.
He urged people to carefully assess the competence, integrity and personality of candidates while exercising their franchise and called for collective support to MAYOL's campaign for political awareness and electoral reform.
