Moirang, February 15 2026:
Sanasam Birchandra, former in-charge member of Wangoo Panchayat Ward No 5, has urged the Government to ensure that the selection of administrative committee members for the four panchayats under Sugnu Assembly Constituency is carried out without political interference.
Addressing a press conference held at the Community Hall of LAYA at Wangoo Laifamlen, Birchandra stated that the selection process should not be influenced by party affiliations such as BJP or Congress, but instead prioritise responsible and suitable individuals who are genuinely supported by the people.
He cautioned that if political influence dominates the selection, around 4,000 to 5,000 BJP-affiliated voters from the four panchayats under Sugnu AC may either quit the party or distance themselves from it.
Birchandra also expressed satisfaction over the recent political development in the State, stating that after a prolonged period under a PR government, the appointment of Yumnam Khemchand as Chief Minister has brought renewed hope.
He said the developmental initiatives undertaken soon after the new Chief Minister assumed office are encouraging and reflect a people-centric approach.
He highlighted the initiation of construction work on the Mayai Lambi road, describing it as a lifeline for many people of the State, the Wabagai-Sugnu road project, and the steps taken to repair the Moirang-Wangoo State Highway as commendable efforts aimed at public welfare.
Referring to the High Court's directive to conduct Panchayat elections and the subsequent move to form administrative committees ahead of the polls, Birchandra welcomed the notification issued by the District Administration inviting applications from interested individuals to join the committees.
However, he reiterated that the administrative committees to be formed by the new BJP-led Government must comprise honest and capable persons who are loved and trusted by the people and willing to work selflessly for public welfare.
He warned that if politically influenced individuals are appointed instead of deserving candidates, it could lead to resentment among party supporters in the four panchayats, potentially affecting the party's grassroots support base in the constituency.
The press conference was also attended by former member incharge of ward no 7, Sanasam Indrakumar, ward no 6 member incharge Sanasam Inaocha, ward no 8 member incharge Th Achoubi, Chairel GP ward no 1 member incharge RK Anita; ward no 2 member incharge Amom Modhubala, Pangaltabi GP ward no 2 and 3 member incharge N Sunil and N Maimu, Serou GP ward no 2 and 6 member in-charge K Ronel and E Chalamba, among others.
