Kakching, November 11 2025:
Assam Rifles celebrated World Science Day for Peace and Development at Waikhong in Kakching district yesterday with vibrant participation from students and educators of Government School Waikhong, Modem English School and Eureka English High School.
As per a press release issued by IGAR (S), the event embraced this year's global theme - "Trust, Transformation and Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2025" - highlighting the vital link between scientific advancement, community trust and sustainable development.
Observed annually on November 10, World Science Day was established by UNESCO in 2001 to underscore the critical role of science in society and its contribution to peace, sustainability and inclusive progress.
The celebration at Waikhong reflected this spirit through a series of thoughtfully curated activities designed to foster scientific curiosity and environmental consciousness among young learners.
A science quiz and debate competition encouraged students to engage critically with pressing scientific themes, including the role of innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
These sessions not only tested knowledge but also nurtured analytical thinking and collaborative dialogue.
A practical workshop on "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" introduced students to simple yet effective recycling techniques and the correct use of waste segregation practices.
This hands-on experience aimed to instil sustainable habits that can be adopted in everyday life.
Further enriching the programme, a Forest Ranger conducted a Biodiversity awareness session, acquainting students with indigenous plant species and their ecological and medicinal significance.
To channel creativity into scientific expression, an Innovation Drawing and Painting Competition was also held, allowing students to visualise solutions for a greener future.
The event culminated in a sustainability pledge taken collectively by students, teachers, foresters and Assam Rifles personnel, reaffirming their shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
