Killing of Robinhood : Condemnations pour in
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, July 09 2015 : Many organisations have come forward to condemn the killing of a student, Sapam Robinhood in police action yesterday.

Vehemently condemning the killing, BJP Manipur Pradesh termed the police act as 'inhuman' and said the Govt should resign on moral ground as it is incapable of ruling the State.

The personnel involved in the act should be terminated from service and a proper judicial enquiry should be conducted, a statement issued by the BJP, Manipur demanded.

The BJP also shared the grief of the bereaved family.

The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Jiri Branch has also condemned the killing of a class XI student, Sapam Robinhood, after being hit by a tear gas shell yesterday.

In a statement JCILPS, Jiri Branch said the State Government should take up action against the involved police personnel at the earliest.

The statement also questioned if the State security personnel have no responsibility of safeguarding the people of the State.

Opposing the closure of educational institutions and condemning the use of violence against the students, the statement demanded the resignation of Education Minister M Okendro Singh.

"People have elected their representatives so as to address their grievances.

However, instead of reaching out to its people, Chief Minister O Ibobi and the MLAs are more interested in money power.

The Chief Minister can no longer safeguard the indigenous people of the State and therefore he should resign from his post," the statement said.

It also added that a stronger Bill to save the indigenous people of the State should be passed during the ongoing Assembly session.

Strongly condemning the police action of firing upon protesters resulting in the death of Sapam Robinhood and injuring of many others, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) said the incident was a clear case of violation of child rights, especially their right to life and dignified survival.

The Commission in an emergency meeting held at its office premises resolved to take up a suo moto case.

It has also written to the DGP, Manipur seeking details of the incident and the particulars of the personnel involved in the firing, said a statement.

The Commission also sought details of any action taken report including filing of a criminal case against the police personnel involved in the firing.

MCPCR also informed the matter to the NCPCR, the statement said.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, (ABVP), Manipur has flayed the insensitive approach of the State Govt and its forces to the students' demonstrators demanding implementation of ILP in Manipur which resulted in the killing of Robinhood and injuring many others.

In a statement, ABVP Manipur said that the O Ibobi led State Govt has failed to protect the democratic rights of its citizens.

Imposing curfew and closure of educational institutions cannot be a long term solution to the issue, it said.

The ABVP demanded that the issue be taken up seriously by taking on board all parties concerned.

The ABVP also demanded the CM to own up to the blame and step down from his post on moral ground.

It also urged the intervention of the Centre as the State has failed to tackle the issue effectively.

Communist Party of India, Imphal West District Council also condemned the killing of Robinhood.

Other organisations like the Eastern Educational Club, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU), All Manipur Muslim Development Organisation, (AMMDO), Kanglei Path Way for the Traditional Heritage (Kanglei Path), Tentha Heibung Tranquillity Club, Tentha, the United All Communities Social Up-Lifters, Kanleipak (UNACSU), Ching-Tam United Women's Association (CHITUWA), Langthabal Kunja Youth Progressive Organisation, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Human Rights Defender, Manipur, Students' Union Club, Kontha Khabam, Ereipak Enaat Chanura Loinasilon (EECHAL), All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO), All Manipur Nupi Marup, Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO), Indian Sports Sangh, Manipur Pradesh, All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council have strongly condemned the killing of Robinhood.

The organisations have urged the authority concerned to punish the police personnel involved in the killing.
