Imphal, March 07 2025:
Poirei Eeta Meira Paibi Apunba Lup has strongly opposed the combing operations carried out by State and Central forces in the valley areas while highlighting the alleged absence of similar operations in Kuki inhabited regions.
Speaking to media persons at Poirei Eeta Meira Paibi Apunba Lup office at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai, general secretary Leimapokpam Nganbi Leima said that since the imposition of President's Rule in the State, combing operations have been done in the valley in a bid to arrest village volunteers.
Condemning such operations, she claimed that the combing operations are widely carried out in Meitei areas while such security actions are uncommon in Kuki regions.
She demanded the same measures be taken against the Kukis, in line with those taken against the Meiteis.
In response to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla's appeal to surrender arms and ammunition, the weapons of Meitei village volunteers were submitted, she said.
However, she asserted that Kuki organisations such as COTU and ITLF remain resolute in their demand for separate administration, which they have termed "non-negotiable", and are unwilling to engage in any peace efforts.
Saying that the Kuki groups have blatantly challenged the statements of the Union Home Minister and the Governor, she questioned what actions will be taken against them.
Addressing yesterday's incident wherein alleged Kuki militants fired at Central security forces in Churachandpur, she demanded the relevant authority to clarify what measures have been initiated against the culprits.
Similarly, she demanded an explanation from the Centre concerning the recent signing of an agreement between two Myanmarese rebel groups for a merger in the presence of Mizoram Chief Minister at Aizawl.
